My Role

As an UI/UX Manager, I have headed the user research and competitive analysis, wireframes and scope. Am responsible to validate the scalability of the UI, use-cases in a 4-week sprint.

Objective:

Create Physical card designs with new trends and specific needed inputs on the card.

Design Process:

5-Stage Design thinking model has been used. The stages of this Design Thinking process are as follows:

  • Empathize

  • Define

  • Ideate

  • Prototype

  • Test

Design Toolkit:

  • Adobe Illustrator

  • Adobe XD

  • Useberry

User Research:

This conducted research is more into the known pain-points of our existing users. Digging down for the actual problem is the key priority for us. Based on the events and metrics we find that users are not very familiar with the password driven login or sign-up. Whereas on the other hand fin-tech apps and UPI apps are having an easy process.

We looked into various easy and simple registration process keeping our TG on mind.

Design Inputs:

  • Designs will have a costing involved based on the material of the card we use and the template.

  • Most of the competitors have used visa designs cards with simple brand colors. Example: Fi Money, Jupiter, Slice

  • As we are going to be partnering with VISA, I have found the link below to design as per their guidelines

Specifications:

  • Size & Dimensions- Prepaid card size is 3.37 inches (85.6 mm) in width, 2.125 inches (53.98 mm) in height, 0.0625 inches (1.588 mm) in thickness, and have a corner radius of 0.125 inches (3.18 mm) as per the defined ID-1 size in international standard ISO/IEC 7810. This size is also known as CR80.

  • Thickness- The ISO/IEC 7810 specifies that all Cards or other IDs, including (ID-1, ID-2, ID-3 & ID-000) should have a thickness of 0.76 millimeters (0.0312 inches). The actual thickness of a card slightly varies from card to card if you include the extruded text on cards. The thickness of a card also depends on the construction material used to construct a card. For instance, an apple card is made of titanium and is around 0.0325 inches thick, slightly thicker than 0.0312 inches. On the other hand, we have seen plastic cards as thick as 0.036 inches. The thickness of cards is often measured in Mils. One Mil is the 1000th part of an inch. So 0.0312 inches translated to an exact 31.2 Mils.

  • Font Sizes of Components- The font size on a card is around 12-16 points. However, different banks use different sizes as there is no underlying standard for the font used on a card. Similarly, there is no standard for the font type or name, but mainly a monospace font like Courier, Consolas, Lucida Console / Lucida Sans Typewriter, etcetera are used. It's again at the discretion of the issuing bank to use whatever font they like.
