Strategic Overview
Context
Cordlife is a leading consumer healthcare and stem cell banking ecosystem across Asia. Expectant parents trust Cordlife to store their newborn’s cord blood and umbilical cord tissues for a 20+ year lifetime commitment.
The Dual Strategic Challenge
-
Low Engagement Post-Sign-Up: Legacy cord blood banking apps were treated as "file cabinets"—parents logged in once to view a lab report and never opened the app again for months.
-
Friction in Onboarding & Monetization: Acquiring new parents relied heavily on offline hospital consultations and organic web searches, but the digital funnel lacked a seamless bridge from initial hospital touchpoints to long-term digital engagement.
Strategic Objectives & Product Vision
To transform Cordlife from a passive storage utility into an active maternal health companion, I established four key product design pillars:
-
Seamless Acquisition Engine (Organic & Hospital Partner Funnels):
Build friction-free digital onboarding for expectant parents entering the ecosystem through OB-GYN clinic touchpoints, hospital QR codes, or organic search discovery. -
Time-Specific Pregnancy Engagement:
Deliver personalized, week-by-week pregnancy tracking, clinical nutrition tips, baby growth milestones, and direct doctor teleconsultations throughout the 280-day gestational journey. -
Contextual Cross-Selling via Quick-Commerce SDKs:
Integrate embedded e-commerce SDKs (e.g., instant maternity essential delivery, diagnostic test kits, baby care supplies) directly into the user’s current trimester timeline. -
Lifetime Stem Cell Vault:
Provide a secure, biometric-enabled interface for real-time sample collection tracking, laboratory cryo-preservation metrics, and 20+ year health certificate management.

User Personas & Behavioral Psychology
The Expectant Parent (First-Time or Second-Time)
-
Demographics: Ages 25–38, tech-savvy, managing busy professional lives while navigating pregnancy planning.
-
Psychological Mindset: High emotional investment, sensitive to medical health advice, constantly seeking trustworthy, week-specific guidance.

Applied UX Psychology Frameworks
-
Progressive Disclosure (Preventing Cognitive Overload): Instead of dumping 9 months of medical literature at once, information is served in bite-sized, week-specific digest cards matching the user's exact pregnancy day.
-
The Hook Model (Habit Formation): Time-based triggers (e.g., "Your baby is the size of a mango today! Here is your Week 24 check-list") prompt daily app opens, creating a habit loop that introduces doctor consultations and health products naturally.
-
Contextual Commerce (Reducing Purchase Friction): Maternity products and supplements are not displayed as aggressive banner ads; they appear as recommended essentials within clinical tips (e.g., suggesting compression socks or folic acid during the specific weeks they are medically recommended).
Information Architecture (IA)
To balance Daily Engagement, E-Commerce Monetization, and Lifetime Stem Cell Management, I restructured the app into a Task-Oriented 4-Tab Framework
-
Today (Engagement Engine): Contains the pregnancy timeline, daily doctor-verified advice, hydration/kick counters, and contextual care tips.
-
Stem Cells (Core Asset Vault): Real-time tracking of collection kits during delivery, laboratory processing status, and 20+ year preservation certificates.
-
Care & Consult (Health Services): Integrated teleconsultation portal for booking sessions with OB-GYNs, lactation experts, and pediatricians.
-
Essentials Store (SDK Monetization Layer): Native-feeling quick-commerce checkout powered by embedded partner SDKs for instant 10-to-30 minute delivery of maternity items, vitamins, and post-natal supplies.

Wireframing & Low-Fidelity Iterations
Critical Design Iterations
-
Hospital QR Onboarding Flow:
1. Initial Prototype: Required a complex 6-step registration process at the hospital counter.
2. Pivot: Reduced friction to a 2-step Scan-to-Pre-Fill QR flow using the patient's phone number, allowing OB-GYN clinics to instantly link hospital booking details to the digital app.
-
Quick-Commerce SDK Integration:
1. Initial Prototype: Redirected users out of the app to third-party quick-commerce web views, causing a 65% drop-off rate
2. Pivot: Designed an In-App Native Overlay SDK that allowed users to select maternity essentials and complete purchases using saved payment methods without leaving the Cordlife application ecosystem.
